Meaning of Waheguru

Different people have written different meanings of 'Waheguru'.

One is:

The word ‘Waheguru’ is combination of first character of the names by which god was called in different yugs (ages), i.e

W - Wishnu (Vishnu)
H - Hari
G - Gobind
R - Ram

As in gurbani each and every word has a meaning. Even if a word is spelled differently in Gurbani, has a different meaning. Gurbani is complete. We can not say: Even without this word the meaning of stanza (or line) will remain same and complete. Same way, except W,H,G,R the sounds aa( for WA), ae (for HE), u (for GU) and uu (for RU) must also have some meaning. The word 'Waheguru' has a deep meaning.

My guru, Sant Gurnam Singh Ji taught me, so I believe it.

WA = Wah = Wow = Astonishing
HE = Everywhere/Anywhere
GU = Dark
RU = Light

He taught me Waheguru is he who can illumine (anything) anywhere by vanishing dark in an astonishing manner.

Understanding technically:
To produce light one need a source, like electricity-electric bulb, fuel-flame, sun, etc. We need a SOURCE. We can not imagine light without a source. We can not produce it from nothing. But he can. So, the WA in Waheguru.

As he can produce light from nothing he can do it anywhere, as we do not require a specific conditions (or source). So, the HE in Waheguru.

Only one of GU or RU can exist. Once RU is produced GU will vanish.

Bhul chuk maaf.

the muslims say that god has 99 names (hence the rosary beads being 99 segments) the hindus thort that the saints of each time WERE gods THEMSELVES and started to pray to them (as it is written in the scripture of the sikhs >me<) and they didnt say anything i.e. vishnu (vaasdev) hari krishan, gobind (gopal) and raam didnt say, hey, god is the one who has gave me these powers, pray to him, but insted they all said follow me >subh aapne aapna dharam chalaia siri dasam pita ji di bani, theres much more like this in bhai gurdaas jis vaara and siri guru granth sahib ji<.

our guru, never said that they are not the names of god. in this time of kaljug, people were forgeting god, so since god has an infinite number of names (as, in effect, he can create a new name for himself as and when he wants). the most remembered people (as there were lota of saints in each jug) i.e. raam, vaasdev (vishnu) and so on, the starting letter of each of their names were combined to form the word vaheguru.

as sikhs, we do not pray to these devi type 'gods' (as they were reincarnited, and god cannot be reincarnited) but rather recognise
vaheguru to be this vibration that we must hop onto. i frequently say, hop onto the naad! you will feel like you have always ment to feel.

so vaheguru is the vibration of god, and we are not really supposed to find this vibration, but rather 'hop' onto this vibe. (i suppose that we could say that we have found it.. but u no...)

to try and break down vaheguru in its constituent letters and syllables will only get you 70% of the way, and you willl finish your life in the process.

look to god, and nothing else. if you get stuck, go to your guru granth sahib, if you dont understand anything, go to the saints, if you dont understand anything that the saints have said like the concepts then go to saadus(bhagats).

gurfateh.

just by denying our source and closing our eyes and chanting SUn has risen is not going to take away the negative impact of venom we are spewing.
Waheguru is formulated by sri guru Ramdasji and it has been clearly indicated as
W - Vasdev (Vishnu)- Satyug
H - Hari - Dwapar yug
G - Gobind - Kali Yug
R - Ram - Treta Yug

Whatever You people are discussing here is teh result of dirty minds of akalis
Who have been preaching That we are close to Muslims
If we were so close to Muslims why did not produce any guru. ALl our Gurus were born To Hindu Mathers>
Real name of Guru Teg Bahadur was Tyagmal
And Guru Gobind Singh was Gobind rai
Banda Bahadur _ Madhodas
Father of Guru Nanak Devji was Kalyan Das Mehta and not any mohamed or salim
Bhai Matidas was Pundit Matidas not Mulla matidas and
Guru teg bahadur neh shahidi diti si hindu dharam vastey not what akalis are propagaiting
Dashmesh Pitah was stabbed by a Moslem Bodygaurd after whic Dashmesh Pitah said "NEVER BELIEVE IN MUSLIMS"
The Divinity of akal Purukh will never fade away with this akali propaganda and instead it will fade away with time
EK Omkaar is base of universe

WaheGuru is actually "Waah - E - Guru".

"Waah" and " - E - " are separate, not together.
While speaking, "- E -" gets carried on to the previous word, "Waah".

Using " - E - " is a persian and urdu way of writing.
Examples are
"Dard - E - Jigar", Jigar KAA Dard, or Pain OF Heart
"Noor - E - Husn", Husn KAA Noor, or Light OF Beauty
"Surat - E - Haal", Haal KI Surat, or Face OF the Situation
"Wazeer - E - Aazam", Aazam KAA Wazeer, or Wazeer or the World
etc.

The " - E - " establishes an "of" relationship ( works as a 'kaa', 'kae', 'kee' vibhakti ).

Thus,
"Waah - E - Guru" is GuruJi ki Waah, or Waah OF Guru.

The feeling expressed by "Waah" is of sudden amazement, happiness, and appreciation combined together.

In english, we may truly translate Waah-E-Guru as
- All praise to The Guru,
- Hail The Guru,
- Praise The Guru,
etc.

Please also see :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waheguru
" Bhai Santokh Singh, in Sri Guru Nanak Prakash (pp. 1249–51), reporting Guru Nanak’s testament to the Sikhs has thus explicated "Vahiguru": "

Read Guru Granth Sahib

Here it is the Text on Wahe Guru.

Before You proceed further As per Hindu Upanishads and other Books on Hinduism the All Supreme Formless God is Vishnu-Narayana, the Supreme Cosmic Spirit who maintains complete control over the Universe and all the sentient beings, is perfect, omniscient, omnipresent, incorporeal, independent, the creator of the universe, its active ruler and also its eventual destroyer. He is causeless, eternal and unchangeable.
It is this God (Narayan) whom Guru Nanak Worshipped and it is this supreme formless God that the Guru Granth Sahib Refers.
And it says the Last thought of a man before his death should be of the Supreme God Narayan.
